Basic Rider Course

Course Fee: $50

Minimum Age: 15 yrs

NOTE: Students under the age of 18 yrs. must have a parent or legal guardian present on the first day of class to sign a release form.

The BRC starts with motorcycle familiarization and works up to basic street riding skills using a proven curriculum developed by the MSF and is recognized nationally. The course consists of approximately 5-6 hours of classroom instruction and 10-12 hours of “seat time” on one of the provided training motorcycles. Weekend and week night classes are available.

Successful completion of the BRC requires the following:

  • Attendance to all of the sessions

  • Participation in all of the classroom and range exercises

  • Written skills evaluation

  • Riding skills evaluation

What you need to bring:

  • Over the ankle shoes or boots (high heels are not recommended as they will interfere with proper operation of controls)

  • Long pants (denim jeans)

  • Long sleeve shirt or jacket

  • Full fingered gloves

  • Eye protection (safety glasses or face shield on helmet)

  • DOT or  SNELL certified motorcycle helmet (a limited supply of loaner helmets are available)

  • A positive attitude!

NOTE: Classes are held “rain or shine” so a rain suit or extra clothes are highly recommended.

Successful completion of the BRC earns the student a waiver for the riding test at the BMV to obtain their Motorcycle Endorsement. Students will still be required to pass the BMV written test in order to obtain their Beginner’s Permit, which must be held for at least 31 days before obtaining the MC endorsement. The Beginner’s Permit is only valid for one year.
